Hi,
so why is security on your domain registrar account so important?
here's the best example I can give you...
A couple of years ago a good friend of mine had built up a recurring monthly income from a SaaS (software as a service) membership site, to the tune of 5 figures a month.
It had taken him well over a year of blood, sweat and tears to get the site to that healthy level.
Then one weekend when he was away from his PC someone managed to hack in to his domain registrar and transfer away his domains, leaving his business dead in the water...
By the time he found out the domains had been passed through more than one registrar and on to a new 'owner' in a country where the legal process to get them back was going to be long and costly at best, more likely a total waste of time & effort.
He did survive the ordeal, just, mostly by getting some of his sites back up on new domains.
But his many source of income, that site/service that he'd spent over a year building up was lost.
If he'd had 2 factor authentication in place the thieves wouldn't have been able to get in to his account in the first place.
So why take the risk when you can have 2 factor authentication security for free, with the right registrar...
If your domain registrar doesn't offer it then I can highly recommend:
and until the end of today they're offering domain* transfers for just $3.98
*applies to .com, .net, .org, .biz or .info domains
I used this offer last year to save myself $300+ by transferring 50 of my domains that were coming up for renewal! :-)
It's their fifth annual MoveYourDomainDay
Transfers are only $3.98 each, and you get an extra year on your domain in most cases + plus an SSL certificate and secure Private Email service.
For every domain transferred on Feb. 2, Namecheap will donate between $0.50 and $1.50 to watchdog group EFF, the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
EFF is the world's biggest advocate for online access rights and privacy -- web users are lucky to have them watching our backs. Over the last four years of MoveYourDomainDay, Namecheap has donated over $200K to EFF.
There is also a coople of regular coupons available for the whole of Feb:
"SNOBANQ" = standard discounts on one-year registrations or transfers of .com/.biz/.net/.org/.info
"NWINDVPS" = 10% off your VPS hosting (for the first billing cycle)
SECURITY NOTE: Name Cheap have an excellent security feature you can use to really lock down your account by having two factor authentication, where they send an extra code to your mobile for you to use when logging in.
